Cycling in Tasmania

What to expect

Our bicycle tours are designed for every-day-cyclists, who want to discover our magical island and meet the locals. They do combine moderate sporting activities with short walks and visits to tourist attractions. We are using sealed (paved) roads only.
We have a "no-frills" approach. While we do give our clients honest advice and work hard to assure everything works well we do not "pamper" our clients. If you need somebody to for instance carry your suitcase into your room you should book somewhere else.
We can modify a tour to your individual requirements, for instance if you prefer a more energetic ride. Just ask - there is no surcharge for modifications - you just pay for the number of nights.
We are cyclists by ourselves and know how it feels to be on a bike. Because we are based along the bike route we know more than operators who work from a city-office desk.
We pride ourselves on attention to detail and fair prices.
Our speciality are Self Guided Tours In the place of a guide, we will provide a comprehensive and personalized door-to-door route-description. On request we can arrange your luggage being transported from hotel to hotel.
On our Guided Group Tours our support vehicle is with the group all day, not just at curtain points. Thanks to our custom-build, quick loading trailer guests can use the vehicle even for short sections (eg. climbs) without holding up the group. Please note we do not have any pre-set departure dates as we conduct these tours for groups only.
We own a large fleet of quality rental bicycles which are regularly serviced to a very high standard.

Accommodation

We only book those accommodation for our guests were we would stay by ourselves (and in many cases already have). We have selected a cross-section of accommodation styles that reflect what’s generally available in Tasmania. In general, we prefer small, privately owned places and not big sterile hotels.
Considering that guests have different comfort needs and available funds we offer different accommodation categories. Apart from the accommodation the tours are identical. Please note, accommodation for the arrival day and the last night at the endpoint are already included in our tour packages !

Executive category: Usually the best possible accommodation available in the given area. Always with shower / toilet.
Comfort category: Our most booked option with "feel good" places, many of them 4-stars. Always with shower / toilet.
Economy category: For guests who are satisfied with simple accommodation, like basic 3-star motels. Almost always with shower / toilet.
Hostel/Budget category: For backpackers and those who don't mind to share a room with others. Always shared facilities.

Fitness Level

For supported group tours there are no specific requirements.
For self-guided tours we do recommend you have some touring experience and a level of fitness higher than the minimum listed in the tour description. However, an "olympic standard of fitness" is not required.

Bike hire

Our rental bike - gents model. We have several bikes types in our fleet, mountain bikes and high-end road bikes are not among them detailshere. You will find our rental prices VERY competitive. Reasons are: we do not buy new bikes all the time and to maintain them by ourself, knowing which parts are working well but also are affordable.
On request we supply a helmet free of charge (wearing a helmet is compulsory). Guests of our self-guided tours also receive a good pump, a lock, an extensive repair kit (including a spare tube and instructions) and a lock for every 2 bikes.
You are most welcome to bring your own bike, although our insurance requires it has been checked by a professional prior to the tour.
Thanks to our intensive maintenance program bike problems are very rare and usually minor. On group tours the guide does keep the rental bikes in order. Our self-guiding guests can call our 24/7 helpline; most problems can be rectified this way. If this is not possible we come out or allow our client to call the Tasmanian automobilclub "RACT", where our bikes are covered by "roadside assist".

Support vehicle

Our Minibus with our custom made trailer. On our Guided Group Tours we use our own support vehicle and custom build trailer. Its design enables very quick loading and unloading of any bike. Bus and trailer are usually close to the guests, meaning if you don´t want to cycle anymore you can take a break and continue cycling later.

Value for money

Compared to other operators we are less expensive. Be assured: there are no catches or shortcuts or compromises of service. We just don´t spend money on a fancy website, expensive color brochures, office rent and overhead costs. We pass the savings on to our customers, resulting in fair prices and good value for money.

NOTE: If you are planning to do a bike tour by yourself in Tasmania, there are some things worth bearing in mind: Certain areas are much more hilly, in reality, than it appears on maps; you can travel quite some distance without ever coming across shops; suitable accommodation is not a certainty in all places. A more enjoyable and hassle-free option is to let us to arrange a self-guided tour for you, where you can travel independently but without the organisational difficulties. Better still, you could enjoy the fun and ease of a guided group tour. Either way, our trips have proven to be a very successful way to see the 'Holiday Isle'.
